Addaven 10ml is a concentrated trace-element solution for intravenous infusion, designed to meet basal to moderately increased trace-element requirements in patients receiving parenteral nutrition when oral or enteral nutrition is inappropriate.
Each 10ml ampoule provides nine essential trace elements: Chromium, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Iodine, Fluoride, Molybdenum, Selenium and Zinc. These micronutrients support a wide range of normal physiological functions including enzyme activity, metabolism, antioxidant defence, thyroid function, blood formation and immune function.
Addaven is used as an additive to parenteral nutrition solutions or emulsions and must not be administered undiluted. It is intended for adult patients and children weighing 15kg or more, with the dose adjusted according to individual clinical requirements.
The product is particularly useful in patients who require intravenous nutritional support for an extended period or who are unable to obtain adequate trace elements through the gastrointestinal tract.

How to Use:
• Addaven must be administered under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
• It must not be administered undiluted.
• Add the prescribed amount to a compatible parenteral nutrition solution or emulsion before intravenous administration.
• The usual adult dose for basal to moderately increased requirements is 10ml once daily.
• For children weighing 15kg or more, the recommended dose is generally 0.1ml per kg body weight per day.
• Dosage may require adjustment in patients with renal impairment, hepatic impairment or cholestasis.
• Longer infusion periods are preferred as part of parenteral nutrition; a typical minimum infusion period is approximately 8 hours.
• Use only with medicinal products or nutrition solutions for which compatibility has been established.
• Use aseptic technique when adding Addaven to a parenteral nutrition admixture.
• Product is intended for single-patient use; discard any unused residue.
Precautions:
• Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to any active ingredient or excipient.
• Contraindicated in patients with total biliary obstruction.
• Contraindicated in patients with Wilson's disease or haemochromatosis.
• Not recommended for children weighing less than 15kg.
• Use with caution in patients with impaired liver function because reduced biliary excretion may lead to accumulation of certain trace elements.
• Use with caution in patients with impaired renal function because urinary excretion of some trace elements may be reduced.
• Trace-element levels, particularly manganese, may require monitoring during prolonged treatment.
• Parenteral iron or iodine may rarely cause serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylactic reactions.
• Stop the infusion immediately and initiate appropriate treatment if a hypersensitivity reaction occurs.
• If additional oral iron is being taken, total iron intake should be considered to reduce the risk of accumulation.
• Do not add Addaven directly to a lipid emulsion unless compatibility has been specifically documented.
• Store below 30°C.
• After dilution, use immediately whenever possible.
• Keep out of reach of children.
