Ferinject Ferric Carboxymaltose 50mg/ml 500mg/10ml Injection is a prescription intravenous iron medicine used to treat confirmed iron deficiency when oral iron is ineffective, cannot be used, or when there is a clinical need to replace iron rapidly. Each 10ml vial provides 500mg of iron as ferric carboxymaltose.
Ferric carboxymaltose delivers iron directly into the bloodstream, allowing replenishment of iron stores under medical supervision. The required dose is calculated according to the patient's body weight, haemoglobin level and total iron requirement, and iron deficiency should be confirmed through appropriate laboratory testing.
Ferinject must be administered only in a healthcare setting where trained staff and facilities for managing serious hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reactions are immediately available. Patients should be monitored during administration and observed for at least 30 minutes afterward.

• Monitor for hypophosphataemia, particularly with repeated high doses or prolonged treatment.
• Avoid leakage outside the vein, as extravasation may cause irritation and long-lasting brown skin discolouration.
• Use during pregnancy only after careful medical assessment; intravenous iron is generally reserved for the second and third trimesters when clearly necessary.
• Oral iron, if required afterward, should generally not be restarted until at least 5 days after the last Ferinject dose.
• Always follow the prescribing information and institutional administration protocol.
