FerMed 100mg/5ml Injection 5's is a prescription intravenous iron preparation containing Iron Sucrose, equivalent to 100mg elemental iron in each 5ml ampoule.
It is used for the treatment of iron deficiency when oral iron therapy is ineffective, cannot be used, or when there is a clinical need to replenish iron stores more rapidly through the intravenous route.
Iron is essential for the formation of haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. FerMed delivers iron directly into the bloodstream as an iron sucrose complex, allowing the body to utilise the iron for haemoglobin production and restoration of depleted iron stores.
FerMed is intended for intravenous administration only and may be given as a slow intravenous injection, intravenous infusion after dilution, or during haemodialysis according to the prescribed treatment protocol.
The patient's total iron requirement should be calculated individually based on laboratory findings, body weight, haemoglobin concentration and iron stores. Treatment must be initiated and monitored by qualified healthcare professionals because intravenous iron products can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions.

How to Use:
• FerMed must be administered only by qualified healthcare professionals.
• It is for intravenous use only.
• The total required dose should be calculated individually according to the patient's iron deficit, body weight and haemoglobin level.
• The usual adult dose may be 5–10ml FerMed, equivalent to 100–200mg iron, one to three times per week, depending on the prescribed treatment plan.
• FerMed may be administered as a slow intravenous injection or as an intravenous infusion after appropriate dilution.
• For slow intravenous injection, administration should be performed at the rate specified in the approved prescribing information.
• For intravenous infusion, dilute only with compatible sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution according to the prescribed protocol.
• FerMed may also be administered into the venous limb of a haemodialysis circuit when clinically appropriate.
• Do not administer intramuscularly.
• Follow the physician's prescribed dose, frequency and treatment duration exactly.
Precautions:
• Prescription-only medicine.
• Use only when iron deficiency has been confirmed by appropriate laboratory investigations.
• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose, FerMed or other parenteral iron preparations.
• Do not use in anaemia that is not caused by iron deficiency.
• Do not use in patients with evidence of iron overload or disorders of iron utilisation.
• Intravenous iron preparations can cause serious and potentially life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions.
• Patients should be observed during and after administration according to institutional and prescribing guidelines.
• Appropriate emergency treatment facilities should be immediately available during administration.
• Use cautiously in patients with active infection, inflammatory conditions or significant liver disease as clinically appropriate.
• Monitor haemoglobin, ferritin and transferrin saturation to avoid iron overload.
• Pregnancy use requires careful medical assessment; intravenous iron is generally used only when clearly necessary.
• Do not mix with medicines other than compatible sodium chloride infusion solution unless compatibility has been established.
• Inspect the solution before use and do not administer if the ampoule is damaged or the solution shows abnormal appearance or sediment.
• Use opened or prepared solution immediately whenever possible.
• Discard any unused remainder.
• Store in the original package below 25°C.
• Do not freeze.
• Keep out of reach of children.
