Xinclav 1.2g IV Injection is a prescription broad-spectrum antibacterial medicine containing Amoxicillin 1000mg and Clavulanic Acid 200mg in each vial.

Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class beta-lactam antibiotic that works by interfering with bacterial cell-wall synthesis. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps protect Amoxicillin from certain bacterial enzymes that would otherwise inactivate it. This combination extends antibacterial activity against many susceptible beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Xinclav 1.2g is used for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections when intravenous antibiotic therapy is clinically appropriate. These may include severe ear, nose and throat infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, severe dental infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections and certain female genital infections.

It may also be used for surgical prophylaxis in selected procedures according to institutional antibiotic guidelines and physician direction.

The product is supplied as a powder for intravenous injection or infusion and must be reconstituted before administration. The exact dose, dosing interval and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, age, body weight, kidney function and individual clinical condition.

How to Use:

• Xinclav must be prescribed and administered by a qualified healthcare professional.
• It is for intravenous administration only.
• It is not suitable for intramuscular injection.
• For adults and children weighing 40kg or more, a commonly used treatment regimen for the 1000mg/200mg strength is one dose every 8 hours, depending on the infection and clinical condition.
• Dose frequency may differ according to infection severity and institutional treatment protocols.
• Children weighing less than 40kg require weight-based dosing prescribed by the physician.
• Dose adjustment is required in patients with significant renal impairment.
• Patients with hepatic impairment should be treated cautiously with appropriate liver-function monitoring.
• For slow IV injection, administer the reconstituted dose slowly over approximately 3–4 minutes.
• For IV infusion, administer over approximately 30–40 minutes.
• The 1000mg/200mg vial is commonly reconstituted with 20ml Water for Injection for IV use.
• Prepare using aseptic technique and use only clear solution free from visible particles.
• Follow the exact reconstitution and dilution instructions supplied with the UAE product pack.
• Complete the prescribed antibiotic course unless the treating physician directs otherwise.

Precautions:

• Prescription-only antibiotic.
• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin, Clavulanic Acid, penicillins or any component of the formulation.
• Contraindicated in patients with a history of severe immediate allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to other beta-lactam antibiotics including cephalosporins, carbapenems or monobactams.
• Do not use in patients with a previous history of jaundice or significant liver dysfunction associated with Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid.
• Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity reactions can occur with penicillin antibiotics.
• Stop treatment and seek urgent medical attention if severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty or other symptoms of anaphylaxis develop.
• Use only for proven or strongly suspected susceptible bacterial infections to help reduce unnecessary antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance.
• Diarrhoea may occur during treatment; severe or persistent diarrhoea may indicate antibiotic-associated colitis and requires medical assessment.
• Kidney function should be considered when selecting the dose and dosing interval.
• Monitor liver function during prolonged treatment or in patients with hepatic disease.
• Use caution with medicines such as warfarin or other anticoagulants, methotrexate, probenecid, allopurinol and mycophenolate where clinically relevant.
• Treatment should not normally be prolonged beyond 14 days without medical review.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding use should be determined by the treating physician.
• Store according to the conditions stated on the original Xinclav pack.
• Reconstituted solution should be used promptly according to approved preparation instructions.
• Keep out of reach of children.
