Scopinal 20mg/ml Injection 5's is a prescription antispasmodic medicine containing Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide 20mg in each 1ml ampoule.
It is used for the relief of acute smooth-muscle spasm, particularly in conditions such as renal colic, biliary colic and painful gastrointestinal or genitourinary spasm. It may also be used during selected diagnostic procedures where reduction of smooth-muscle spasm is clinically required.
Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide works by reducing involuntary contractions of smooth muscle in the abdominal and pelvic organs. This helps relieve cramping and spasm-related pain without producing the same central nervous system effects associated with some other anticholinergic medicines.
Scopinal Injection may be administered by intramuscular, intravenous or subcutaneous injection according to the patient's condition and the physician's prescribed treatment plan. Intravenous administration must be given slowly because a marked drop in blood pressure may rarely occur.
Each pack contains 5 x 1ml ampoules and is intended for professional medical use.

How to Use:

• The usual adult dose is one 1ml ampoule containing 20mg Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide.
• It may be administered intramuscularly, intravenously or subcutaneously.
• If clinically necessary, the dose may be repeated after approximately 30 minutes.
• The maximum recommended daily dose is 100mg.
• Intravenous injection must be given slowly.
• When used during diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy, repeat dosing may be required according to the physician's judgement.
• Scopinal may be diluted with compatible dextrose or 0.9% sodium chloride injection solutions when required.
• Do not use continuously or for prolonged periods without investigating the underlying cause of abdominal pain.
Precautions:
• Prescription-only medicine.
• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide or any component of the formulation.
• Contraindicated in narrow-angle glaucoma.
• Contraindicated in prostate enlargement associated with urinary retention.
• Do not use in mechanical gastrointestinal stenosis, paralytic or obstructive ileus or megacolon.
• Contraindicated in patients with tachycardia or myasthenia gravis.
• Intramuscular administration should be avoided in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy because of the risk of intramuscular haematoma.
• Use cautiously in patients with cardiac disease, including heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias or hypertension.
• Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide injection can rarely cause severe hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis and shock.
• Patients should be appropriately observed after parenteral administration.
• Seek urgent medical assessment if severe or unexplained abdominal pain persists or is associated with fever, vomiting, fainting, bowel changes or blood in the stool.
• The medicine may cause dizziness or visual accommodation problems; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.
• Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended unless specifically advised by a physician.
• Store below 30°C.
• Protect from light and heat.
• Keep out of reach of children.
