PSI Dextrose 5% in Sodium Chloride 0.9% IV Infusion 500ml is a sterile intravenous solution containing Dextrose 5% w/v together with Sodium Chloride 0.9% w/v for parenteral fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate supplementation when clinically indicated.
Each 100ml contains 5g of Dextrose and 0.9g of Sodium Chloride. The 500ml presentation therefore provides approximately 25g of Dextrose and 4.5g of Sodium Chloride.
The Sodium Chloride component supplies sodium and chloride ions to help support extracellular fluid and electrolyte requirements, while Dextrose provides a source of carbohydrate calories and free water after metabolism.
This combination solution may be used in patients who require simultaneous fluid, sodium, chloride and carbohydrate administration when oral or enteral intake is inadequate or unsuitable.
The volume and rate of administration must be individualized according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid balance, electrolyte status, blood glucose, renal function and overall treatment plan.
The 500ml presentation is intended for controlled intravenous administration in hospital or clinical settings under appropriate healthcare-professional supervision.

How to Use:
• PSI Dextrose 5% in Sodium Chloride 0.9% must be administered intravenously by or under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
• The volume and infusion rate must be individualized according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition and fluid requirements.
• Monitor blood glucose, serum electrolytes, fluid balance and renal function when clinically appropriate.
• The solution may be used when both carbohydrate and sodium/chloride replacement are required.
• Inspect the container and solution carefully before administration.
• Use only if the solution is clear, free from visible particles and the container is intact.
• Use aseptic technique when connecting the infusion set.
• If medicines are added to the solution, confirm compatibility before administration.
• Mix thoroughly after addition of any compatible medicine.
• Discard any unused remaining solution after use according to institutional procedures.
Precautions:
• Prescription-only intravenous solution.
• Use only when clinically indicated and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
• Use cautiously in patients with diabetes mellitus, hyperglycaemia or impaired glucose tolerance.
• Frequent blood-glucose monitoring may be necessary during administration.

• Particular caution is required in patients with significant renal impairment or reduced sodium excretion.
• Check compatibility before adding medicines to the infusion solution.
• Do not use if the solution is cloudy, discoloured, contains particles or if the container is damaged or leaking.
• Do not reconnect partially used containers.
• Store according to the conditions stated on the original PSI pack.
• Protect from excessive heat.
• Keep out of reach of children.
