PSI Sodium Chloride 0.9% IV Infusion 500ml is a sterile isotonic intravenous solution containing Sodium Chloride 0.9% w/v for fluid and electrolyte replacement in patients requiring parenteral therapy.
Each 500ml contains Sodium Chloride at a concentration of 9mg/ml, equivalent to 4.5g of Sodium Chloride per 500ml. The solution provides sodium and chloride ions at approximately 154mmol/L each and has an osmolarity close to that of extracellular body fluids.
Sodium Chloride 0.9%, commonly known as Normal Saline, may be used for the treatment of isotonic extracellular dehydration and sodium depletion when intravenous fluid replacement is clinically required.
It may also be used as a vehicle or diluent for compatible medicines intended for intravenous administration, according to the prescribing information of the medicine being diluted.
The amount and rate of infusion must be determined by a qualified healthcare professional according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid requirements, electrolyte status, kidney function and concurrent treatment.

How to Use:
• PSI Sodium Chloride 0.9% must be administered intravenously by or under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
• The volume and infusion rate must be individualized according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid balance and electrolyte requirements.
• It may be used for replacement of extracellular fluid in isotonic dehydration.
• It may be used for correction of sodium depletion when clinically indicated.
• It may also be used as a vehicle or diluent for compatible medicines intended for parenteral administration.
• When used as a medicine diluent, check the compatibility, recommended concentration and administration instructions of the medicine being added.
• Inspect the solution and container before administration.
• Use only if the solution is clear and free from visible particles and the container is intact.
• Use aseptic technique when connecting the infusion system or adding compatible medicines.
• Monitor fluid balance, serum electrolytes and acid-base status when clinically appropriate.
• Discard any unused remaining solution after use according to institutional procedures.
Precautions:
• Prescription-only intravenous solution.
• Do not administer unless clinically indicated and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
• Use cautiously in patients with heart failure, kidney impairment, oedema or other conditions associated with sodium or fluid retention.
• Excessive or rapid administration may cause fluid overload, pulmonary oedema, peripheral oedema or electrolyte disturbances.
• Large volumes may contribute to hypernatraemia, hyperchloraemia or hyperchloraemic metabolic acidosis.
• Particular monitoring may be required in patients with impaired renal sodium excretion.
• Monitor serum sodium and overall fluid balance in patients at risk of electrolyte disturbances.
• Consider all other intravenous fluids, medicines and dietary sources when calculating the patient's total sodium and fluid intake.
• Check medicine compatibility before using Sodium Chloride 0.9% as a diluent or vehicle.
• Do not use if the container is leaking, damaged or if the solution is cloudy or contains particles.
• Do not reconnect partially used containers.
• Store below 25°C.
• Keep in the original packaging until required for use.
• Keep out of reach of children.
