PSI Ringer Lactate IV Infusion 500ml is a sterile balanced electrolyte solution for intravenous administration, formulated to help restore extracellular fluid volume and replace essential electrolytes when clinically required.
Ringer Lactate, also known as Lactated Ringer's Solution or Compound Sodium Lactate Solution, contains Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride and Sodium Lactate in water for injection. The solution provides sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride and lactate ions in concentrations designed to approximate the electrolyte composition of extracellular fluid.
The lactate component is metabolised mainly to bicarbonate and can contribute to maintenance of acid-base balance. This makes Ringer Lactate particularly suitable for replacement of extracellular fluid and electrolyte losses in situations such as dehydration, fluid loss associated with surgery or trauma, and selected cases of hypovolaemia or hypotension.
The solution may also be used as a vehicle or diluent for compatible intravenous medicines when compatibility has been established.
The volume and rate of infusion must be determined by a qualified healthcare professional according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid balance, electrolyte status, renal function and overall treatment requirements.

How to Use:
• PSI Ringer Lactate must be administered intravenously by or under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
• The dose, total volume and infusion rate must be individualized according to the patient's age, body weight, clinical condition, fluid loss and electrolyte requirements.
• It may be used to restore extracellular fluid and electrolyte balance when isotonic replacement is appropriate.
• It may be used for short-term volume replacement in selected patients with hypovolaemia or hypotension.
• It may also be used as a vehicle or diluent for compatible medicines intended for intravenous administration.
• Monitor fluid balance, serum electrolytes and acid-base status when clinically appropriate.
• Inspect the solution and container before administration.
• Use only if the solution is clear, free from visible particles and the container is intact.
• Use aseptic technique when connecting the infusion system or adding compatible medicines.
• Check compatibility before adding any medicinal product.
• Discard any unused remaining solution according to institutional procedures.
Precautions:
• Prescription-only intravenous solution.
• Use only when clinically indicated and under healthcare-professional supervision.
• Use cautiously in patients with heart failure, renal impairment, oedema or other conditions associated with sodium or fluid retention.
• Use cautiously in patients with hyperkalaemia or conditions that may increase potassium levels.
• Use cautiously in patients with hypercalcaemia or conditions associated with elevated calcium.
• Because the solution contains calcium, compatibility must be checked carefully with medicines that may interact or precipitate with calcium.
• Ceftriaxone must not be mixed with or administered simultaneously through the same IV line with calcium-containing solutions in neonates; appropriate compatibility precautions are required in other patients.
• Excessive or rapid infusion may cause fluid overload, pulmonary oedema or electrolyte disturbances.
• Patients receiving medicines that affect sodium, potassium or fluid balance may require additional monitoring.
• Lactate-containing solutions should be used carefully in patients with severely impaired lactate metabolism or significant liver dysfunction.
• Monitor acid-base status where clinically appropriate.
• Do not use if the solution is cloudy, discoloured, contains visible particles or if the container is damaged or leaking.
• Do not reconnect partially used containers.
• Store at room temperature according to the original product-pack instructions.
• Keep out of reach of children.
